The New York Times (NYT) has published an article, "Medicare Advantage Is About to Change. Here’s What You Should Know."
"Officials announced this spring that they’d “reinterpreted” the definition of “supplemental benefits” for Medicare Advantage....Medicare Advantage plans will be allowed to cover adult day care, home modifications and other new benefits. But they may not be available to all enrollees every year."
Many questions remain, the NYT points out, about how insurers will respond to this as well as to the legislative opening from The Chronic Care Act.
“What I find most fundamental is the recognition, by C.M.S. and Congress, that this bright line between ‘medically necessary’ and things necessary to maintain health — like proper nutrition and transportation to a doctor’s office — is an illusion,” Dr. Diane Meier said....a move to more broadly support the health and well-being of an aging population could mark an important turning point. “Could” is the key word. “It’s only a possibility,” Dr. Meier said. “But it wasn’t a possibility before.”
