UCLA ADC & GAPNA Dementia Care Specialist Curriculum for Advanced Practice Nurses

GAPNA ADC

In partnership with the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA), the UCLA Alzheimer's and Dementia Care (ADC) Program has created the Dementia Care Specialist curriculum that provides a basic knowledge for Advanced Practice Providers who are looking to advance their expertise in caring for persons with dementia.

The ADC Program developed a 22-module course and multi-session Clinical Skill Training components, with support of JAHF and GAPNA, providing a foundation for Advanced Practice Nurses in this field of care. The Fundamentals of Dementia Care include Units A through F:

  • Unit A: Introduction to Dementia Care Management
  • Unit B: Integration into Health System and Community
  • Unit C: Essential Skills for DCMs
  • Unit D: Initial Assessment and Care Planning
  • Unit E: Ongoing Co-Management
  • Unit F: Caregiver Training and Support

The curriculum also includes a module on clinical skills training. CEU hours are available for completion of the online modules and for completion of a Pre-Conference Workshop through GAPNA's Annual Conference.
