The UN Decade of Healthy Aging held a webinar March 18, "Kicking off a Global Conversation About Ageism: The Launch of the First UN Global Report on Ageism," to release the "Global Report on Ageism."

The event launched the first Global Report on Ageism, developed by WHO, OHCHR, UNDESA, and UNFPA. The report presents the latest evidence on a topic that has only gained greater relevance during the COVID-19 pandemic. It outlines a framework for action to reduce ageism including specific recommendations for different actors (e.g. government, UN agencies, civil society organizations, private sector). The report brings together the best available evidence on the nature and magnitude of ageism, its determinants and its impact. It outlines what strategies work to prevent and counter ageism, identifies gaps and proposes future lines of research to improve our understanding of ageism.

The release event highlighted what we know about ageism, why it matters, and how we can tackle it. It also kicked off a global conversation that concerns us all and in which we all should have our say.
