World Elder Abuse Awareness Day: Join Us in Building Stronger Supports for Older Adults
Join us and our network of grantees and colleagues on June 15 to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) by using the below resources.
WEAAD was launched by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and is recognized as a United Nations Observance. The purpose of WEAAD is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Trust for America’s Health (TFAH), the Education Development Center (EDC) and the National Alliance for Caregiving recently partnered to create The Elder Mistreatment Prevention Toolkit for Public Health. Using the Age-Friendly Public Health Systems (AFPHS) 6Cs Framework, the toolkit includes guidance on creating and leading programs that incorporate elder mistreatment prevention, connect with partners to improve older adult health outcomes, collect relevant data, and complement existing public health programming.
As a complement to the toolkit, the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) has partnered with TFAH and EDC on a blog post, "Strengthening Public Health’s Roles in Elder Mistreatment Prevention."
