Hospital Peer Review has published an article, "Hip Fracture Outcomes, Time to Surgery Addressed With Co-Management," about the JAHF-funded geriatrics-orthopedic co-management intervention.

The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) CoCare: OrthoTM model is showing promising results for improving patient outcomes and lowering costs. The model is currently being implemented by two hospitals in the Northwell Health system in New York City. After one year of implementation, Northwell Health has reduced hospital stays for hip fractures by one day and shortened time to surgery. “Co-management is not just coming by and giving consultation. It’s actually dividing up who is going to do what,” says Maria Torrroella Carney, MD, chief of geriatrics and palliative medicine at Northwell Health. “We can intervene, and the protocols that exist to support this population show benefit. Co-management can really improve the quality of care.”
