NASEM Webinar Recording: Keeping Nursing Home Residents and Staff Safe in the Era of COVID-19
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) held a webinar on April 22, "Keeping Nursing Home Residents and Staff Safe in the Era of COVID-19," moderated by Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, President of The John A. Hartford Foundation.
Nursing home residents make up less than one-half of one percent of the U.S. population, but represent approximately 15 percent of COVID-19 related deaths to date according to one recent estimate.
This webinar highlighted the innovative approaches to address the complex challenges in nursing homes that are currently being implemented in the state of Maryland. The collaborative approach involves health care professionals at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the state department of health, emergency medicine professionals, and newly formed “strike teams” made up of members of the National Guard.
