PHCOE-DC Event Part II: Public Health Considerations and Models for Cultural Adaptations in Dementia Caregiving

Cultural Adaptation Symposium2 5

The BOLD Public Health Center of Excellence on Dementia Caregiving (PHCOE-DC) and UsAgainstAlzheimer's Center for Brain Health Equity are holding a webinar on August 25, "Public Health Considerations and Models for Cultural Adaptations in Dementia Caregiving Part II."

Culture is essential in shaping our individual experiences and health. Yet surprisingly little attention has been paid to the interplay between culture and dementia caregiving. Dementia supports and services are not adequately tailored to meet the cultural needs of older adults and their caregivers, despite the projected rise in the diversity of caregivers in the U.S.

In the second installment of this series, attendees will learn more about health inequities facing Black and Latino dementia caregivers and will learn firsthand from practitioners who have adapted or developed culturally tailored programs to serve these communities. An expert panel will discuss the importance of cultural adaptation and caregiver diversity. Panelists include:

  • Judith Susan Rocha, Ph.D., LCSW, MSW, Director of Field Education, Assistant Professor, Northeastern Illinois University
  • Lauren J. Parker, Ph.D, MPH, Assistant Scientist, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
  • Fayron Epps, Ph.D, RN, Assistant Professor, Emory University, Nell Hodgson, Woodruff School of Nursing
  • Jason Resendez, Executive Director, UsAgainstAlzheimer's Center for Brain Health Equity
