2026 Annual State of the Science Review Paper: Age-Friendly Health Care Systems - State of the Science, Past and Future Directions
Research in Gerontological Nursing has published its 2026 Annual State of the Science Review paper on, "Age-Friendly Health Care Systems: State of the Science, Past and Future Directions."
Each year, the journal's January/February issue features a science review to update the field on the current state of research in one aspect of gerontological nursing, chart future directions and highlight emerging priorities. It is free to access.
This year's review, "Age-Friendly Health Care Systems: State of the Science, Past and Future Directions," synthesizes existing studies on the Age-Friendly Health Systems (AFHS) 4Ms Framework (What Matters, Medication, Mentation, Mobility) implementation, examines the measures used, identifies barriers and facilitators to implementation, and outlines future directions for advancing AFHS research and practice. The journal also includes a response to the review by JAHF President Emerita Terry Fulmer.
