AARP Movies for Grownups: Screening of 'Aging in America - Survive or Thrive'
As part of AARP’s Movies for Grownups Program, a free online screening of the documentary Aging in America: Survive or Thrive will take place on Wednesday, October 15 at 8 p.m. ET.
The Movies for Grownups series spotlights films that resonate with older audiences and help fight ageism in entertainment. Participation is free, and AARP membership is not required.
Narrated by Martin Sheen, the one-hour documentary Aging in America: Survive or Thrive celebrates the promise of increased longevity while addressing public policy challenges such as ageism, economic insecurity, Alzheimer’s disease and the future of health and long-term care. Using Dr. Robert Butler’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book Why Survive? Being Old in America as a guide, the film features older adults, caregivers and national experts reflecting on what it will take for Americans not just to survive longer lives but to thrive.
The film, supported by The John A. Hartford Foundation and other partners, premiered on PBS in May and is also available on PBS streaming platforms, Amazon and Apple TV. Free discussion guides for the film are offered for general audiences as well as professionals in aging.
