AARP Three-Part Blog Series: Impact of Hospital Visitation Policies on Families and Older Patients during COVID-19
AARP has published a blog, "Alone and Confused: The Effects of Visitor Restrictions on Older Patients and Families," as part of a new series that highlights the impact of hospital visitation policies on families and older patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
For patients with dementia, delirium, and cognitive impairment and patients who are critically ill and near the end of life, visitor restrictions have been particularly difficult. The first blog addresses the vulnerabilities of older adults in hospitals at this time and the necessity for steps to be taken to ensure both their physical and mental well-being throughout the pandemic. The second blog discusses visitor restrictions and protocol changes, and highlights the need for long-term systems change.
