Age-Friendly Institute: Compendium of Age-Friendly Measures

AFI measures

The Age-Friendly Institute has compiled a compendium of measures of an age-friendly eco-system.

The goal of the project has been to collect, in one central place, the various measures being used to track outcomes of interest associated with age-friendly practice. At present, the compendium contains over 130 measures drawn from an exhaustive review of Age-Friendly practice frameworks and other sources including Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, Age-Friendly Health Systems, Age-Friendly Public Health Systems, Age-Friendly Employers and Age-Friendly Universities.

A video explainer describes the measures and how they were collated. Each row lists one unique measure found in the review of age-friendly practice and frameworks and its accompanying measure source. The downloadable measures document also notes for each measure whether or not public data is available that researchers can access. In addition, the framework each measure stems from is listed, and each measure is aligned with one of the six characteristics of an age-friendly ecosystem.

Looking ahead, the Age-Friendly Institute will continue to add measures of age-friendliness to this collection. Feedback and ideas are invited to build upon this work.
