Ageism Awareness Day 2025

The American Society on Aging (ASA) is spearheading the 2025 Ageism Awareness Day on October 9. The day draws attention to the existence and impact of ageism in our society.

Ageism Awareness Day highlights how ageism affects health, financial security and communities. It is also a call to action to raise awareness, change perceptions and build a more age-inclusive society.

Ageism refers to stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel) and discrimination (how we act) toward others or ourselves based on age. ASA's fact sheet notes that ageism negatively impacts our health and well-being, our financial security and the economy. It exists in many forms, influencing everything from personal interactions to public policy, and impacts us at every age.

ASA has created a hub of resources to help you spread the word, including fact sheets, sample social media and messaging tools.

Leading up to Ageism Awareness Day, ASA and partners are hosting a series of webinars:

  • October 2 at 12 p.m. ET: “Framing Our Lived Expertise: Telling Stories of Ageism to Inspire Change
    Hosted by the National Center to Reframe Aging (NCEA) in preparation for Ageism Awareness Day, this webinar will help participants frame their lived experiences of ageism in ways that raise awareness and inspire action. Panelists will share practical tools and highlight why Ageism Awareness Day is a call to action.
  • October 9 at 12 p.m. ET: “Leading Change in Aging - Expanding Age Advocacy with ASA RISE
    Hosted by VCU Gerontology and the Virginia Center on Aging, with support from the RRF Foundation for Aging, this session will highlight new research from the Expanding Age Advocacy Guide to Action and the ASA RISE fellowship program, which builds a diverse leadership pipeline in aging.
  • October 9 at 3 p.m. ET: “Keys to Age-Inclusion: Collaboration & Belonging
    Hosted by ASA, this webinar will explore how our views of aging shape policy and investment in communities, and why collaboration across sectors is key to building more inclusive systems. Panelists will share practical strategies for addressing ageism, highlight resources to support age-inclusion and discuss the future of the age-friendly movement. Speakers include:
