AHA Next Generation Leaders Fellowship: Call for Nominations
The American Hospital Association (AHA) is accepting nominations for the AHA Next Generation Leaders Fellowship, which offers Age-Friendly Health Systems scholarships for participants focused on addressing the needs of older adults.
The Fellowship develops leaders and empowers them to bring about real and lasting change to the hospital and health system in which they serve. The program matches fellows with an executive-level mentor who will guide them through the planning and execution of a year-long capstone project at their hospital or health system. The aim is to support and develop high-potential employees to improve retention, innovation and succession planning while also strengthening their organization’s leadership capacity.
With support of JAHF, AHA offers Age-Friendly Health Systems scholarships for fellows who will develop and implement a project to based on the 4Ms of age-friendly care.
Two scholarship recipients from the 2022 cohort, Biren Kamdar and Tripp Grooms, completed their capstone projects on Age-Friendly topics:
- Biren Kamdar, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine UC San Diego Health. Dr. Kamdar's project goals were to develop an ICU delirium playbook as a virtual and expandable platform for ICU nurse education and training, with a focus on delirium management in older, critically ill patients and those receiving mechanical ventilation and sedative infusions. - Tripp Grooms, MHA, Director of Business Operations, Atrium Health Cabarrus. Dr. Grooms' project goals were to tailor care for older adult patients using the Age-Friendly Health Systems 4Ms Framework— what matters, medications, mentation and mobility - and to create an Acute Care for Elderly (ACE) unit without walls in his organization.
