American Library Association Awardees: Three Libraries Awarded ALA’s 2025 Peggy Barber Tribute Grant for Programs for Isolated Older Adults
The American Library Association (ALA) announced the three awardees of the 2025 Peggy Barber Tribute Grant. The awardees are Falls City Library & Arts Center in Nebraska, Hartford Public Library in Michigan and Pottsboro Library in Texas.
The Peggy Barber Tribute Grant supports a different type of library programming each year, this year the focus is on combatting isolation for older adults. The 2025 awardee projects are:
- The Falls City Library & Arts Center: weekly senior programs, including craft sessions, chair yoga, classic movie showings and special speakers.
- The Hartford Public Library: incorporate prizes at senior bingo events and sponsor physical activities like Tai Chai, chair yoga and cardio drumming.
- The Pottsboro Library: "Share & Learn" program, where older adults can share their skills and life experiences to foster community connections.
“Libraries are vital resources that can play a critical role in helping older adults connect with each other and their communities,” said Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, JAHF president. “We congratulate the winning libraries in Nebraska, Michigan and Texas for innovatively engaging older adults to reduce social isolation and support their health and well-being.”
