Article: Palliative Care Beyond Hospice Is Spreading to More States
The Pew Charitable Trusts' Stateline has published an article, "Palliative Care Beyond Hospice Is Spreading to More States."
“There’s a growing understanding that we’re not dying the way we used to,” said Jennifer Moore Ballentine, Executive Director, California State University Institute for Palliative Care. The article talks about the National Academy for State Health Policy's (NASHP) recent report on state palliative care policies and programs. It details different palliative care requirements across states, noting, for instance, that "Maryland is the only state that requires all hospitals of a certain size to provide palliative care and lays out staffing and training requirements."
Amy Berman, RN, LHD, FAAN, Senior Program Officer, The John A. Hartford Foundation, is featured in the article discussing why she choose palliative care and what it is doing for her: she is living “a really great life.”
