Cancer Health Article: Riding With Reindeer
Amy Berman, RN, LHD, FAAN, Senior Program Officer at The John A. Hartford Foundation, has written an article in Cancer Health, "Riding With Reindeer."
Dr. Berman talks about an extra layer of support she gets called palliative care which she calls her "secret weapon," that helps her "live a great life with cancer...I work, travel and have lots of adventures and fun."
She explains, "I still go to my oncologist for care and treatment. But I also have a palliative care team—including a nurse practitioner, physician, social worker and chaplain—that focuses on me and my family, managing my pain and symptoms, and helping me live my best life. Research shows that people who add palliative care to their usual care feel better—and live longer."
