Celebrate Older Americans Month 2025
Every May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM). The 2025 theme is Flip the Script on Aging, which focuses on transforming how society perceives, talks about and approaches aging.
OAM's Flipping the Script theme encourages individuals and communities to challenge stereotypes on aging and dispel misconceptions. JAHF and its grantees are changing the conversation by promoting age-friendly care and reframing aging:
- Aging in America: Survive or Thrive documentary airing on PBS starting May 1. The film uses the Pulitzer Prize-winning book Why Survive: Being Old in America by Dr. Robert N. Butler, the first director of the National Institute on Aging, as a guide. It features older adults and family caregivers from across the country as they navigate the complexities of aging and highlights insights from health care experts, policymakers and advocates who discuss how to create a health care and long-term care system that works for all older adults. Key achievements in aging policy made throughout the 20th century are highlighted and the film asks: what work remains to help older adults living in America not just survive, but thrive?
- Reframing Aging resources from the National Center to Reframe Aging (NCRA): NCRA is dedicated to ending ageism by advancing an equitable and complete story about aging in America. The center is the trusted source for proven communication strategies and tools to effectively frame aging issues.
- NCRA held a webinar on April 15, "Reframing to Flip the Script," in recognition of OAM. Register for free to access the recording and resources.
