Dear Abby Letter: Spotlighting Health Care for Older Adults
The Dear Abby column by Abigail Van Buren has published a letter by Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, and JAHF president, on "Spotlighting Health Care for Older Adults."
In the letter, Dr. Fulmer talks about what good healthcare is for older adults and notes that it's time to transform this health care. "Good care is when 'what matters most' to patients drives the entire treatment plan. It's age-friendly care that is informed by the medications we take, how easily we move, our mood and memory and our goals and preferences."
However, she notes that we're not getting good care as often as we should and highlights a JAHF and Age Wave survey, "Meeting the Growing Demand for Age-Friendly Care: Health Care at the Crossroads," that found only 11% of older adults give the US health care system a top grade.
In the published response, Dear Abby spotlighted the work JAHF has done to transform the healthcare of older adults and how to participate and learn more.
