Federal Trainee Research Opportunity at U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ASPE
The Office of Health Policy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) will be establishing Federal trainee research positions similar to Post Doc type fellowships in academia. These positions are focused on health policy, economics and/or other behavioral sciences and the application of these tools in federal policy making. The ideal candidates include individuals who have recently completed doctoral training or are up to five years out and who seek to gain experience that will enable them to be successful in gaining close knowledge of Federal health policy and the policy making process. The positions will be for a 1 year term appointment in the Federal government, with an option to renew, and may address the individual’s specific interests and training.

ASPE serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on policy development and is responsible for major activities in the areas of policy coordination, legislative development, strategic planning, policy research, evaluation, and economic analysis. Candidates will join a fast-paced work environment uniting analytic rigor with wide policy breadth during a historic time for health policy in the Federal government.
Qualified applicants will have a strong background in health policy research and experience analyzing large data sets; possess strong analytic and empirical skills; and proficiency in oral and written communication. U.S. citizenship is required. We are looking for candidates with a strong record of academic training, proven research experience, a commitment to health policy research, a demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, and who possess leadership abilities. The position will provide opportunities for both policy relevant research and leadership training. Access to the full range of resources offered by the Office of Health Policy will be available. Salary and benefits will be provided in addition to office facilities at the Hubert H. Humphrey Building.
