Geriatric Nursing Paper: Incorporating Patient Priorities Care Curriculum for Older Adults With Multiple Chronic Conditions into Nurse Practitioner Education
The Geriatric Nursing journal has published a paper, "Incorporating Patient Priorities Care Curriculum for Older Adults With Multiple Chronic Conditions into Nurse Practitioner Education."
The paper describes the implementation of a Patient Priorities Care (PPC) curriculum within nurse practitioner (NP) education. PPC is an evidence-based approach that aligns health care decisions with what matters most to patients, particularly older adults with multiple chronic conditions.
The study found strong student engagement, with more than 90% of NP students reporting an understanding of PPC principles and finding the training valuable. Some students reported lower confidence in applying PPC in clinical practice, underscoring the need for continued training and supervised clinical experiences.
This work highlights the importance of preparing future clinicians to deliver patient-centered, age-friendly care, while supporting improved communication, shared decision-making, health equity and readiness for value-based care.
