The Annuals of Surgery has published a research paper titled, "Making a Financial Case for the Geriatric Surgery Verification (GSV) Program." The American College of Surgeons GSV program has also released a short video about the program.

The GSV program provides hospitals with tools and strategies to reduce the risk of delirium and other costly complications among older patients undergoing surgery. Reducing complications helps patients recover more quickly and helps hospitals conserve critical resources.

The new publications detailing the financial case and care outcomes of the GSV program are:

  • Research paper, "Making a Financial Case for the Geriatric Surgery Verification Program"
The authors note that the "financial benefits of instituting the American College of Surgeons Geriatric Surgery Verification Program far exceed the costs, with the added benefits of enhanced patient satisfaction and improved staff morale."
  • Video: "Reducing Costly Complications and Improving Surgical Care for Older Adults"
The short video explains that the GSV Program provides hospitals with the tools to reduce the cost of care for older adults, shorten stays, and achieve maximum efficiency.
