GIA Webinar: How Public Health Contributes to an Age-Friendly Society
Grantmakers in Aging (GIA) is holding a webinar June 29, "How Public Health Contributes to an Age-Friendly Society."
There is a growing momentum for public health to contribute to programs, policies, and innovative interventions to promote health and well-being for people as they age. While public health efforts are partly responsible for the dramatic increases in longevity over the twentieth century, historically there have been limited collaborations across the public health and aging fields. Since 2017, Trust for America’s Health (TFAH), with the support of The John A. Hartford Foundation (JAHF), has led the Age-Friendly Public Health Systems (AFPHS) initiative to make the health and well-being of older adults a public health priority.
The webinar speakers will talk about the AFPHS initiative, explain how the initiative’s framework has been put into action with multiple stakeholders and partners across the country and offer actionable steps that funders can take to help public health departments recognize the need to focus on older adults as a public health priority.
Speakers include:
- Jane Carmody, Senior Program Officer, JAHF
- Megan Wolfe, Senior Policy Development Manager, TFAH
- Kari Sederburg, Director, Healthy Aging, Michigan Health Endowment Fund
- Alexis Travis, Senior Deputy Director, Public Health Administration, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services
