GIA Webinar: Respect, Inform, and Trust - Communication Strategies to Improve COVID-19 Vaccination Acceptance Among Older Adults
Grantmakers in Aging (GIA) is holding a webinar on March 25, "Respect, Inform, and Trust: Communication Strategies to Improve COVID-19 Vaccination Acceptance Among Older Adults." The webinar is the first in a new series on, "Overcoming Access and Acceptance Obstacles with Older Adults."
Fear, misinformation, and mistrust are obstacles to widespread acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine. Among older adults and other groups, this jeopardizes equitable distribution of vaccine and efforts to control spread of the virus. Engagement, open dialogue, and having trusted messengers and organizations deliver information and education are key to overcoming vaccine reluctance and increasing the number of people who are protected.
The webinar will discuss two models for action. The first draws on a successful past campaign by Generations United that tapped the power of intergenerational communication, interdependence, and responsibility to others in promoting the flu vaccine. The second is a new multi-partner campaign – the COVID-19 Vaccine Education and Equity Project – that seeks to address skepticism, build confidence in the vaccine, and address health inequities.
