Grantmakers in Aging (GIA) has released a new guide, "National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers: Action Guide For Philanthropy," that details ways philanthropy can support family caregivers.

The National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers recommends over 150 actions that states, communities, and other public and private stakeholders can take to recognize, assist, include, support and engage family caregivers. While the Strategy itself was monumental, Congress has appropriated nominal additional funding for the Strategy. Support to advance the recommendations will need to come from many different stakeholders and sectors, including philanthropy.

This GIA Action Guide for Philanthropy features examples of initiatives being funded in five overarching goal areas that provide the framework for the Strategy:

  1. Increase awareness and outreach
  2. Advance partnership and engagement
  3. Strengthen services and supports
  4. Ensure financial and workplace security
  5. Expand data, research, and evidence-based practices

The guide provides examples of initiatives being funded in each goal area, and actionable ideas for where philanthropy can support efforts to advance the National Strategy recommendations.
