Health Affairs GrantWatch: Incorporating Health Equity Into An Initiative To Transform Care For Older Adults
Health Affairs GrantWatch has published a blog, "Incorporating Health Equity Into An Initiative To Transform Care For Older Adults."
Author Faith Mitchell, PhD, of the Urban Institute discusses a commitment to health equity, which "has taken on energy in recent months in response to both the disproportionate effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on certain racial and ethnic groups and new levels of awareness generated by 2020’s racial justice movement. The health care sector is part of this push."
Dr. Mitchell talks in detail about the JAHF-funded Age-Friendly Health Systems (AFHS) initiative at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, describing how equitable outcomes will be measured, the importance of doing this and the potential for replicability. By documenting the racial and ethnic breakdown of their patients, AFHS participants are analyzing health outcomes stratified by race and ethnicity allowing them to take follow-up actions, as needed, to address disparities. The American Hospital Association and Catholic Health Association of the United States are partners in the age-friendly initiative, which now has more than 1,000 participating sites across the country.
