HIGN Course: Integrating the Geriatric Surgery Verification Program with the 4Ms Series
The Hartford Institute of Geriatric Nursing (HIGN) has released the "Integrating the Geriatric Surgery Verification (GSV) Program with the 4Ms Series" that was created to educate health professionals on how to incorporate the 4Ms of the Age-Friendly Health Systems initiative and the GSV Program into practice.
This course was created by HIGN at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing in partnership with Rochester Regional Health. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) served as consultants for the educational content. The series includes one introductory course and four case studies.
The Age-Friendly Health Systems 4Ms framework (What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility) are a set of four evidence-based elements of high-quality care. The GSV Quality Improvement Program's surgical standards are designed to improve surgical care and outcomes for older adults.
