Moving Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition 2026 Coalition Conversation Webinar Recording: Turning Evidence into Action - How Medicaid Payments Impact Nursing Home Outcomes

Moving Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition 2026 Coalition Conversation Webinar

The Moving Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition held a Coalition Conversation webinar January 20 on, "Turning Evidence into Action: How Medicaid Payments Impact Nursing Home Outcomes."

Historically, gaps in research have left it unclear how Medicaid payments relate to facility-level quality outcomes. However, researchers from UMass Boston and Miami University have developed a unique database of per-diem rates, costs, and payment-to-cost ratios to examine links between funding adequacy and measurable outcomes, including staffing and five-star quality ratings.

Dr. Edward Miller, Dr. John Bowblis, Liz Simpson, MPH, and Dr. Marc Cohen shared insights from this work during the webinar, highlighting how the data can inform decision-making, especially as Medicaid cuts threaten the quality and safety of nursing home care.

Moving Forward also released a related video, "Medicaid Matters for Nursing Home Residents," which shares the voices of three nursing home residents on how Medicaid funding cuts threaten the quality of care they receive.
