Moving Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition: Action Guides on Resident Councils and Resident Goals
The Moving Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition has released two action guides on nursing home resident councils and resident goals. The two guides are posted on a new dedicated website: NursingHomeActionGuides.org.
Moving Forward Coalition's new website is aimed at uplifting the voice of nursing home residents. The Coalition is releasing essential tools that focus on residents, and the first two best practice guides are:
- Strengthening Resident Councils: A Resident Council can transform the lives of people who live in a nursing home. This Guide can help residents and those who support them create a successful Council. It is designed to:
- Describe the purpose of a Resident Council
- Explain the benefits of a Resident-run Council
- Give guidance on forming or strengthening a Resident Council
- Give problem-solving tips on common issues that could arise to promote Resident Council success
- A Guide to Addressing Resident Goals, Preferences and Priorities: Over the past two decades, many nursing homes have worked to improve the way they gather residents’ goals, preferences, and priorities (GPPs). The Moving Forward Coalition heard from nursing home staff and residents and learned that the GPP process, including who is involved, can vary greatly across nursing homes.
- The purpose of this Guide is to support nursing home staff in addressing each resident’s GPPs by offering resources and recommendations to implement a standardized process.
Feedback is welcomed on these two guides (each guide has a feedback form on it's landing page).
