Moving Forward Coalition & HRSA Webinar Recording: New Federal Opportunity for CNA Career Advancement - HRSA's GWEP 2024
The Moving Forward Coalition Nursing Home Quality Coalition (Moving Forward Coalition) held a Coalition Conversation webinar January 25 about the Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) grant opportunity for funding under the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP). The webinar was titled, "New Federal Opportunity for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Career Advancement: HRSA's GWEP 2024."
HRSA has announced in its Fiscal Year 2024 GWEP Notice of Funding Opportunity requirements to provide education and training for direct care workers to support career advancement within their discipline as geriatrics specialists.
The specific CNA call-out is a powerful statement about the importance of CNAs to the geriatric workforce, and the apprenticeship program's focus could also form a powerful foundation for testing and scaling CNA career pathways nationwide.
The webinar heard from Joan Weiss, Workforce Committee Member and Deputy Director of HRSA's Division of Medicine and Dentistry. The Moving Forward Coalition also provided an update on its workforce-related progress.
