NADRC Webinar: Dementia Equity Programs in the Hispanic and LGBTQI+ Communities
The National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) is hosting a webinar on December 13, "Dementia Equity Programs in the Hispanic and LGBTQI+ Communities."
During the webinar, participants will learn about dementia programs that focus on serving Hispanic and LGBTQI+ communities, which historically have not received equitable care and support:
- Saul Juarez Aguilar will present information on the challenges of implementing dementia initiatives in the Hispanic community and how collaboration acts as a powerful tool for promotion and sustainability. Well-established health initiatives educate the Hispanic community about dementia but failing to understand Hispanic culture could lead to increased health disparities among Hispanic community members living with dementia.
- Sarah Bahnson will discuss challenges experienced by LGBTQI+ people living with dementia and ways to improve services to this community and will present key features of the Visibility Matters program. Whether deciding if it is safe to be known as part of the LGBTQI+ community or needing additional protections, aging care providers benefit from learning more about this community to better support person-first methodologies.
