NASEM Virtual Workshops on Caring for People with Serious Illness: Lessons Learned from the COVID-19 Pandemic and Future Directions

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) is holding a three part virtual workshop, "Caring for People with Serious Illness: A Workshop on Lessons learned from the COVID-19 Pandemic and Future Directions," across three webinars being held on November 8, 18 and 30.

The workshop, organized by NASEM's Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness, will examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on serious illness care and consider lessons learned and future directions, with specific focus on health care access, health equity, and innovative responses to care in the context of the pandemic. The three webinars are:

  1. November 8: Impact of and Response to the Pandemic, and featured Harvey Fineberg, MD as the Keynote Speaker.
  2. November 18: Recovery and Resilience, explored workforce and Telehealth challenges and opportunities during the pandemic.
  3. November 30: Prevention and Preparedness, looks to lessons learned and suggested policy opportunities to improve care for people with serious illness.
