NASHP Blog: States’ Promising Practices to Improve Care of Serious Illness
The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) has published a blog, "States' Promising Practices to Improve Care of Serious Illness."
In recognition of National Family Caregivers Month, the blog post shares a recent 50-state review and publication from the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC), which found that all states have taken action in some capacity to support care for people with serious illness.
Palliative care—specialized care for people at any stage of a serious illness to provide relief from symptoms and stress that can be provided alongside curative treatment—is an emerging state approach in supporting complex care needs for people with serious illness.
This blog post is based on a webinar co-hosted by NASHP and CAPC to learn about trends in state strategies to support palliative care and promising practices on how two states are using policy levers such as legislation, education and workforce development to support palliative care.
