NASHP Blog & Resources: State Strategies to Promote Advance Care Planning and Palliative Care Messaging and Policy Tools
The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) has published a blog, "State Strategies to Promote Advance Care Planning in Light of the Pandemic," and new web resources to help states increase access to palliative care, "Framing the Message and Gathering Support."
The blog covers how advance care planning discussions with family and providers increased during the pandemic. In order to promote good care and avoid costly and unwanted treatments for people with serious illness, state policymakers can promote advance planning by educating providers, adopting practice standards, and enabling Medicaid reimbursement for advance care planning.
NASHP has also released new web resources, "Framing the Message and Gathering Support," comprising strategies and best practices that state leaders can deploy to promote palliative care among policymakers, patients and families, providers, the public, and other stakeholders.
