NASHP Paper: Community Health Workers and Family Caregivers - Opportunities to Enhance Connection with Community Resources for Aging Populations and Families

NASHP Paper

The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) has published a paper on "Community Health Workers and Family Caregivers: Opportunities to Enhance Connection with Community Resources for Aging Populations and Families."

This paper explores emerging state strategies to connect older adults and family caregivers to needed services and social supports in their communities via partnerships with community health workers to assist with navigating systems, facilitate connections to care and resources, and bring unique experience with the family's community. Examples are given of state approaches in this emerging policy space including Wisconsin and California.

The NASHP paper notes that the 2022 National Strategy for Supporting Family Caregivers recognizes such supports as essential, with a particular focus on improving equitable access in communities that have historically been underserved.
