National Alliance for Caregiving Analysis: FY26 Federal Funding Snapshot for Family Caregivers
The National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) has released an analysis, "Caregiving Appropriations Snapshot - FY2026 Labor-HHS Appropriations: Family Caregiver Provisions."
The Senate and House Appropriations Committees released the Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) funding bill as part of a mini-bus package. This analysis by NAC examines provisions affecting family caregivers and aging services administered through the federal government.
On February 3, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026 was signed into law at the funding levels described in the analysis, signaling a growing recognition of the essential role family caregivers play in providing ongoing, complex care for older adults, people with disabilities, and individuals with complex health needs. In response to persistent advocacy efforts, the Committees provided modest increases for the National Family Caregiver Support Program, Native American Caregiver Support Program, Lifespan Respite Care Program, and the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers. This demonstrates growing bipartisan support for addressing our nation’s worsening family care crisis.
Despite these increases, the analysis shares the ongoing concern that "current funding levels remain insufficient to fully meet the needs of a rapidly growing caregiver population." It also notes that "most Older Americans Act programs have remained level-funded, meaning these investments do not keep pace with inflation or the expanding scope of caregiving responsibilities facing families."
