National Hartford Centers and the HIGN Grant Writing Workshop
The National Hartford Centers of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE) in partnership with the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing (HIGN) NYU and the Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence (HCGNE) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Colleges of Nursing is offering a one day workshop to actively engage junior and mid-level researchers in discussion and critical analysis of various components of research proposal writing. The goal of the workshop is to foster successful programs of adult-gerontological research and hone specific skills to gain a competitive edge for funding. The Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS) is working with the Centers and the Institute to offer this one day pre-conference workshop on Wednesday, February 12, 2014.

The Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS) is working with the Centers and the Institute to offer this one day pre-conference workshop on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. The workshop will focus on writing a problem statement, background and significance. Participants are asked to come with a draft proposal on which they are working. Proposals should focus on adult-gerontological issues and/or implications for aging including prevention of chronic disease and healthy aging. The workshop will help attendees articulate a clear and concise statement of the problem and make the argument for why it is an important area of research.
Faculty for the program include Dr. Pao-Feng Tsai, Professor, leader of research mission (AR HCGNE), Dr. Leanne Lefler, Associate Professor, leader of education mission, Dr. Claudia Beverly, Professor and Director, AR Hartford Center and Dr. Mathy Mezey, Professor Emeritus; Dr. Tara Cortez, Professor and Executive Director, The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing.
Participants are asked to bring a laptop and a draft of their specific aims and significance portion of their grant for “hands-on” critique and assistance. The program will begin at 9 AM and conclude at 5 PM. The fee for the program is $225 and it includes a light breakfast and lunch.
