Historically, a hospital's emergency department was not always the best place for older people. Medical centers around the country are taking note, setting up separate emergency departments or instituting separate policies for emergency geriatric patients.
The article discusses the Geriatric Emergency Department Collaborative, a JAHF supported initiative that brings geriatric care into the emergency room. The article elaborates on the growth of the initiative as well its core tenets, "There are more than 280 accredited geriatric emergency departments in 41 states and four countries, and the goal is to have 500 by the end of 2022. "
