Next Avenue Article: Why Nursing Home Reform Is Finally Coming
Next Avenue has published an article by Richard Eisenberg on, "Why Nursing Home Reform Is Finally Coming," which features the Moving Forward National Nursing Home Coalition.
In the article, Eisenberg details the most pressing challenge for nursing homes, including COVID-19 case surges, severe shortage of care workers, and financial losses. He notes that significant changes to nursing home care are expected in the coming years, catalyzed by President Biden's 2022 State of the Union speech and The National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) report in April 2022 and carried forward by the Moving Forward Coalition, a group committed to reforming nursing home care along the seven NASEM report goals.
The Coalition has committees focused on each of the goals and is committed to improving the quality care for older adults. "We're about impacting policy, impacting practice and making meaningful change," says Alice Bonner, Moving Forward Coalition chair and former head of the CMS Division of Nursing Homes.
