The National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) is holding a Tele-Town Hall, “Empowering Communities: Improving Population Health.” The virtual meeting will be held in both English and Spanish, with the English town hall taking place on April 22 and the Spanish town hall taking place on April 29.

Topics will cover COVID-19 and participation in health research. The format will consist of two panel presentations followed by facilitated discussions with community members, community leaders and activists and elected officials answering community questions.

“It is also becoming increasingly clear, based on evolving data, that COVID-19 is having a more devastating impact on Blacks, Latinos and American Indians across the nation”, states Dr. Nancy Messonnier, Director of the National Center for Immunizations and Respiratory Diseases at the CDC.

While Hispanics make up 17% of the U.S. population, they only comprise 1% of clinical trial participants nationwide. The town hall will introduce participants to The All of Us Research Program, which is attempting to address health disparities for patients of color in the U.S. by inviting one million people to help build one of the most diverse health databases in history.
