Paper: A Retrospective/Prospective on the Future of Geriatric Nursing
Geriatric Nursing has published a paper, "A Retrospective/ Prospective on the Future of Geriatric Nursing," by Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, President of The John A. Hartford Foundation.
The paper describes the progress in geriatric nursing practice over the past 40 years and explores common themes found in literature about geriatrics and about the future of geriatric nursing. Initiatives are described and several conclusions are drawn. The importance of interdisciplinary teams and age-friendly care are two of the promising approaches discussed.
"The rapidly accelerating demand for geriatric nurse experts and care for older adults positions the nursing profession as principal agent in bridging care-gap needs for older persons, families, and their communities," notes Dr. Fulmer.
