Paper: Evidence for the 4Ms - Interactions and Outcomes across the Care Continuum
The Journal of Aging and Health has published a paper, "Evidence for the 4Ms - Interactions and Outcomes across the Care Continuum."
In 2017, geriatrics experts and health system executives collaborated with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) to develop the 4Ms framework — what matters, medication, mentation and mobility. Authored by IHI and JAHF staff and partners, the paper compiles evidence in support of the framework’s positive clinical outcomes through a strategic search of the IHI database and recent literature.
The authors note that, "The 4Ms are meant to be used as a set. The evidence is clear that the interactions among and between each is critically important to assess and manage for better care outcomes." They conclude that the 4Ms framework reduces cognitive load of providers and improves the reliability of evidence-based care for older adults.
