Join the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation on Friday, May 2, from 12 p.m.to 1 p.m. ET, for a First Friday Google+ Hangout on the latest developments in Choosing Wisely—the ground-breaking effort to identify commonly used medical tests and procedures that may be unnecessary or inappropriate. Experts say as much as 30% of care is duplicative or unnecessary and may not improve people’s health. Join them on Friday, May 2, when physicians will discuss efforts to curb the overuse of medical care that drives up costs and can endanger health. More treatment is not necessarily better.
Panelists will discuss the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation’s Choosing Wisely initiative that empowers patients to ask providers questions to avoid costly, dangerous, and potentially unnecessary treatments. Susan Dentzer, senior policy adviser to the Foundation, will lead a discussion with physicians and a cancer survivor about how this campaign has spurred these critical examinations and how it is changing how care is delivered in our communities. Susan Dentzer (Moderator), Senior Policy Adviser to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; Amy Berman, patient advocate and Senior Program Officer, Hartford Foundation; Medical Specialty Society, TBD; Dr. Richard Baron, President and CEO, American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and ABIM Foundation; Susan Mende, Senior Program Officer, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
