Serious Illness Messaging Webinar Recording: Deep Metaphors to Inform Messaging to Increase Palliative Care Engagement
Message Lab held a webinar on September 27 on "Deep Metaphors to Inform Messaging to Increase Palliative Care Engagement."
The Serious Illness Messaging Toolkit is an online public messaging resource for organizations that aims to improve public understanding about care for serious illness. The first messaging principle in the toolkit is "Talk Up the Benefits." Message Lab researchers have now studied the deeply held associations and metaphors that palliative care patients themselves use. This webinar focused on the new information derived from the patient's perspective.
The webinar highlighted the work by the researchers, Jacob Wax and Kathy Shaw, from Olson Zaltman consumer research firm, who explored research findings from the patient's perspective. Discussion covered how to strengthen public messaging with language, frames, and visuals built from this empirical research.
