The AARP Bulletin Article: How Older Adults Are Changing America
The AARP Bulletin September 2023 issue has published an article on, "How Older Adults Are Changing America."
The article looks at how an aging population is shaking up the country, why it is happening and what it means. The author evaluates this phenomenon one sector at a time, from the workplace to healthcare to financial services to fitness to travel to entertainment and to politics. Each section details audiences that are changing and dives into specifics.
The Health Care section discusses how the retail industry is picking up both on the amount that older Americans spend on health care and on the fact that older people today want to be as active and healthy as possible. The article points to the involvement of CVS, for instance, "At the 1,100 MinuteClinics inside CVS stores, health care practitioners trained in 'age-friendly' care have joined more than 3,000 hospitals, doctors’ offices and other sites in a growing movement that focuses on older adults’ medical needs and how best to treat them, according to Terry Fulmer, president of The John A. Hartford Foundation." The section also addresses the huge home health care movement and the hospital-at-home programs, noting that, "The consulting firm McKinsey & Company estimates $265 billion in care for Medicare beneficiaries will be delivered at home by 2025."
