The American Society of Anesthesiologists: Perioperative Diagnostic Excellence in the Older Adult - An Educational Initiative

Perioperative Diagnostic Excellence in the Older Adult An Educational Initiative

The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) is offering a complimentary four-part series, "Perioperative Diagnostic Excellence in the Older Adult: An Educational Initiative."

This educational series will train ASA physician anesthesiologists and care team members on the use of important diagnostic tools needed to improve the care of older adults. The learning products include webinars and a take-home toolkit that provides learners with references to use in their daily engagement with older adults within their medical communities.

Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the reasons to screen for cognitive impairment, frailty, postoperative delirium, and identify screening options.
  • Perform screening tests for cognitive impairment, frailty and postoperative delirium.
  • Describe how to interpret screening tests for cognitive impairment, frailty, and postoperative delirium.
  • Discuss clinical actions and next steps if their patient screens positive for cognitive impairment, frailty, or postoperative delirium.

Part one of the series is available now, all components will be available Fall 2023 and there are options to earn CME credits and MOCA Part 4 QI points. The project is funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and JAHF through a grant program administered by the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS).
