Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, President of The John A. Hartford Foundation, has written an article for The Milbank Blog on "Creating Age-Friendly Health Systems."

Dr. Fulmer talks about the development of an "age-friendly eco-system" since the 1990s to now that encompasses universities, businesses, health care systems, public health systems, and states. She details examples of state and federal involvement over the past five years.

"In 2018, Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York State announced that 50% of its health systems would be age-friendly in five years, building on New York’s designation as an age-friendly state. The focus on health systems makes sense in that there can be no age-friendly city or state in the absence of an age-friendly health system."
