The Other Dementia Breakthrough - Comprehensive Dementia Care
JAMA Neurology has published an article detailing how comprehensive dementia care may benefit persons living with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRDs).
The article discusses evidence based findings on how comprehensive dementia care can benefit persons with AD/ADRDs as well as their caretakers. It also provides insight into how economic sectors that bear the cost of suboptimal care of dementia might be improved.
The authors also discuss current barriers to dissemination of comprehensive dementia care and the steps that might be taken to address them, as well as discussing different payment models that can be used to incentivize the delivery of clinical dementia services. The article was authored by grantees on the UCLA Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Program. Related activities include a roundtable convening hosted by JAHF along with a Health Affairs article on "Payment For Comprehensive Dementia Care: Five Key Recommendations."
