Trust for America’s Health: Age-Friendly Public Health - The Podcast
Trust for America's Health (TFAH) hosts a podcast focusing on Age-Friendly Public Health Systems (AFPHS) called Age-Friendly Public Health: The Podcast. Season two's new episode on "The Intersections Between Aging and Disability Policy" is available now.
The podcast is a production of TFAH's Age-Friendly Public Health Systems Initiative. This quarterly podcast, hosted by TFAH’s President and CEO Dr. J. Nadine Gracia, features conversations with leaders in the age-friendly public health systems movement on challenges, opportunities, and model programs, with a focus on the role public health can play in helping older adults thrive.
Episodes in season 2 include:
- Episode 2: "The Intersections Between Aging and Disability Policy," features Alison Barkoff, Associate Professor of Health, Law and Policy at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. She talks with Dr. Gracia on how disability and aging policy intersect and can support one another.
- Episode 1: "Partnering with the YMCA to Advance Age-Friendly Work," features Katie Adamson, Vice President for Health Partnerships and Policy at YMCA of the USA. She talks with Dr. Gracia about the well-known and subtle ways YMCAs across the country support healthy aging. Read the transcript here.

- Episode 4: "Ageism – Its Impact and How to Overcome It," features Jess Maurer, Executive Director of the Maine Council on Aging. She talks with Dr. Gracia about taking action on the issue of ageism and ending ageism in Maine. Read the transcript here.
- Episode 3: "Building Strategic Partnerships to Create Age-Friendly Communities," features Bill Armbruster, senior advisor at AARP, who has been a key partner working with TFAH's AFPHS Initiative team to forge lasting connections between public health and age-friendly community efforts. He talks with Dr. Gracia about the process toward better aligning our common goals of elevating the health and well-being of older adults through partnerships and collaboration across the age-friendly ecosystem. - Episode 2: "Building an Age-Friendly Ecosystem in Mississippi," features Dr. Kina White, Director of the Office of Community Health Improvement at the Mississippi State Department of Health. She talks with Dr. Gracia about her work to build an age-friendly ecosystem in her home state. Dr. White and her team used a 2020 AFPHS funding opportunity to cultivate both internal and external partnerships, including with AARP and the Mississippi Public Health Association, to better understand the needs of older adults and to develop a statewide action plan for prioritizing healthy aging.
