UCLA Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Program: Dementia Care Specialist Curriculum for GUIDE Care Navigators

DCS Program

The UCLA Alzheimer's and Dementia Care (ADC) Program has released the Dementia Care Specialist (DCS) Curriculum for GUIDE Care Navigators.

This curriculum is for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) who are looking to advance their expertise in caring for patients with dementia. The overall course goal is to provide APPs with knowledge necessary to provide high quality dementia care management.

The DCS curriculum covers the required didactic training for CMS' Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) Care Navigators. It includes 24 modules and a Dementia Workshop that will cover:

  • Background on Dementia
  • Overview of Assessments
  • What is a Care Plan?
  • Behavioral Treatment of Complications of Dementia
  • Safety
  • Coordination of Medical Care and Community Services
  • Advance Care Planning
  • Supporting Caregivers
  • Diversity in Caregivers
  • And more

The DCS Curriculum was developed in partnership with the support of UCLA, JAHF and Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA).
