Webinar & Initiative: Indian Health Service Geriatric ED Accreditation

IHS Geriatric ED Accreditation Initiative 1

The Indian Health Service (IHS) is hosting a November 16 webinar, "IHS Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation: Initiative Supporting Excellence in ED Care for Elders." The webinar is designed for IHS and Tribal EDs to learn about an initiative that will help them achieve Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA).

The IHS Division of Nursing Services, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Grant Program, will offer technical assistance, access to training resources, and reimbursement of accreditation fees for IHS and Tribal emergency departments interested in becoming accredited as a Geriatric ED.

Geriatric EDs reduce the chance of avoidable admissions and re-visits while improving patient outcomes and satisfaction. There are currently nine IHS and Tribal EDs with Level 3 accreditation from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) GEDA program.

Presenters include:

  • Ardith Aspaas, BSN, RN
Nurse Consultant, Emergency Medical Services for Children
Project Manager, IHS Geriatric ED Accreditation Initiative
  • Nicole Tidwell
ACEP GEDA Senior Program Manager, Accreditation
    American College of Emergency Physicians
  • Dr. Wiley Thuet
    Northern Navajo Medical Center
